I have been in love with Italian food since the minute I could open my mouth. When I'm not trying to perfect my marinara sauce, I'm either browsing the cookbook section in Barnes & Noble, sitting in traffic on the George Washington Bridge or earning a living as a writer. And I still hold onto the hope that the key to longevity is eating pasta twice a day.
Aside from cooking, baking & eating, I also enjoy doing pilates and yoga, power walking, socializing, going to the movies, attending my book club meetings, shopping for bargains, vegging at the beach, watching Days of Our Lives and quoting lines from Seinfeld
Spiedini alla Romana, Rigatoni with Turkey Bolognese, Pasta (Perciatelli) Aglio Olio...and many more!
When the summer days began, one of the last places I wanted to be was in front of my computer. So one morning as the sun’s rays gently warmed my apartment, I browsed Travelzoo® (http://www.travelzoo.com/) —one of my favorite sites—while sipping on a caramel iced coffee. As I took a moment to daydream about a few exotic...
Last month I was invited to a “Special Class at Perugina’s Legendary Chocolate School” that was being held at La Scuola di Eataly (the largest artisanal Italian food and wine marketplace in the world, located in New York City’s Flatiron District). And for those of you who are unaware, Perugina is known worldwide for its...
So last month I was invited to attend the 2012 International Day of Italian Cuisines that took place at the International Culinary Center in New York City. While the “official dish of the year” was Ossobuco in Gremolata, which I’m sure was outstanding, I made it a point to show up for the 11:30am seminar entitled, “The...
Now that we’re at the tail end of 2011, most of us are looking back over the last 12 months to point out the highs, the lows (and the in betweens), as well as planning our goals for the coming year. Since no one is really interested in my “personal” favorite moments (like “Winning!” with the tiger-blooded Charlie...
A couple of weeks ago—right at the tail end of the time when I was thinking, dreaming and stressing about one word: Vinitaly—I received an email from my colleague and friend, Susannah Gold, who so kindly offered me an invitation to a private dinner and wine tasting that would be hosted by a number of Italian wine producers from the...
One of the perks of being a health writer is receiving numerous review copies of nutrition and weight loss books. (Hey, it makes me happy...) The UPS man is a regular at my front door, and when he recently delivered Rocco DiSpirito's latest cookbook, Now Eat This! Diet, I wanted to give the driver a big hug, but unfortunately, he had already...
Now don’t worry—this blog will not be a recap of the latest episodes of the Real Housewives of New Jersey. Come on…like I’d even waste my precious time on such a pointless—not to mention brainless—television show.
When I’m not writing articles on health and wellness, I’m either reaching out to...
A few weeks ago, I received an invitation to the Domaine Select Wine Estates (DSWE) 2011 Annual Grand Portfolio Tasting that was being held at The Pool Room at The Four Seasons Restaurant. Needless to say, I added this “work” event to my calendar in a matter of seconds.
And then about one minute later, I forwarded the invitation...
Last year I had the opportunity to interview actress Valerie Bertinelli about her amazing 40-pound weight loss. (And PS: Not only did she drop the weight, but she also shed about a good 10-15 years off of her already-youthful appearance.) It was the second time I’d be interviewing her and I was really looking forward to the afternoon for a...
The other night one of my dearest friends was in town and she asked me to pick a place for the two of us to have dinner. She didn’t care where we dined or what kind of food we’d eat. “I’ll hop in a cab and will go anywhere” were her exact words.
Clearly, there was no mystery as to the type of food we...
When I was approached about writing for EatItalian.com almost two years ago, it felt as if the food angels were not only smiling down on me, but had sprinkled my aura with fairy dust (made with bread crumbs and grated Grana Padano cheese, of course). Call it a hunch, intuition or insight, but I knew working with and for this site wasn’t...
The following entry actually belongs in the "recipe" section, but truth be told—it just ain't working (blame it on me or my beloved Mac). So I'll enter one of my favorite recipes as my first official blog post. (Well, if you're paying attention, it's technically my second post, but I consider post #1 my "why...
I can still remember being a little girl and holding up my plate for a second dish of my mother’s rigatoni with homemade tomato sauce made with the fresh basil that my father had planted in the backyard…and hearing my grandmother say, “One day you’re going to wake up and be a big macaroni!”
And being the...
