In 1987, Brigette ReDavid began her journalism career writing features for the Philadelphia Inquirer. In addition to her newspaper work, Brigette has also written short stories, children’s stories, a play, and a screenplay. Over the years, Brigette has written hundreds of restaurant reviews and her travel writing has led her to explore many places. As a second generation Italian-American, Brigette visits her grandfather’s original home in Bari, Italy, and her Italian cousins when she can. She loves writing about family, culture and food, as well as learning recipes from all of Italy’s 20 regions. Brigette would like to share some recipes and reviews with readers, and one wish – vivi bene, live well.

Here in the US, you don't find the abundance of herb gardens like you do in Italy. From the vineyards of Alba to the cities of Roma, Venezia and Bari, it is rare not to find a box of herbs on a patio. I thought of this as I was generously watering my basil before leaving for the seashore. Basil, I have learned, loves water, so do tomatoes...
