My name is Johnny Meatballs, I'm a proud Jersey Italian!!!! I cook and sell my famous "Trinity" meatballs (made of veal, pork & beef) out of my custom-constructed mobile meatball cart: JOHNNY MEATBALLS ON A ROLL. It's the world's first wagon on wheels specifically built to serve up my hot specialty! Find me and the "Meat & Greet" team all summer long across the Garden State and beyond at feasts, farmers markets, flea markets, craft fairs, private and public events large and small!!!! In 2010, I was a cast member on the Vh1 reality show, "My Big Friggin' Wedding," and I wrote and recorded "The Meatball Song" (available on i-Tunes). I have an autobiographical cookbook out entitled, "My Big Friggin' Book" and I also publish a weekly blog called "Cugine Corner" on i-Italy.org every Tuesday. You can follow my many projects and food adventures on my youtube channel (The Johnny Meatballs) and on twitter (@JohnnyMeatballs). Hit me up on facebook (johnnydecarlo) or e-mail me at johnny.decarlo@gmail.com. And always remember...say your prayers, respect your mother, eat your meatballs! God Bless!
The Cadillac is the ultimate cugine car, and I am proud to say I now own one. There’s a long, complicated story behind how I got this sweet set of wheels which I will get into a little later, but first let me explain why many of us Italian-Americans have an affinity for this vehicle. Of course not all Italian-Americans love Caddies, but...
I’ve been interviewed on quite a few radio and TV shows, but I have to say, my four visits to “The Carlucci Show” have been some of my most fun and memorable experiences. Gregg Carlucci (or as I like to call him DJ Big Time) is the host of this outrageous (and totally unscripted) radio program—what I consider real reality...
Ladies and gentlemen, the wait is over. Johnny Meatballs On A Roll – The World’s First Mobile Meatball Cart is back! Yes, we are rolling out again to kick off the 2012 feast season after the long winter. Our last event was December 20th at the Closter Christmas Toy Drive, nearly five months ago. Sunday we’ll be at the...
Whether or not you agree with the lifestyle choices of Giovanni and the boys is your personal opinion as an Italian-American or any American of any ethnic background—but the bottom line is—the show “Mama’s Boys Of The Bronx” was just that, a show. And in this paisan’s view, it was a fascinating and...
This past Sunday, I had my first “Meat & Greet” of 2012 at Corrado’s Market in their newest location (which recently underwent a stunning renovation) in Fairfield on Route 46. The day was a huge success, and I am so grateful for all the people who came out. Sundays are the unofficial Italian-American day of the week, the...
The blog you are about to read is actually a research essay I submitted to the Calandra Institute related to the subject of Italian-Americans on television. Like all of my blogs, these are my opinions and views and do not reflect those of the Calandra Institute or i-italy.
The following is an exploration of Italian-American sub-cultures, in...
As the owner of Johnny’s Meatballs In Sunday Gravy, people occasionally ask me why I don’t call my product “Johnny’s Meatballs In Sunday Sauce.” This usually comes from folks who don’t believe that gravy can be red. I know, it’s an age-old debate that will never end, but I will attempt to offer one final...
Being that I am Johnny Meatballs, The Meatball King of New Jersey, owner of Johnny's Meatballs In Sunday Gravy and Johnny Meatballs On A Roll - The World's First Mobile Meatball Cart, I thought I'd speak today about something I've done lots of research on and have learned through a lot of trial and error: entrepreneurship. I will...
I think it’s pretty obvious my favorite food to eat and cook is Italian-American but we once again changed it up from the Sunday Gravy last week for this French-inspired American classic—Chicken Cordon Bleu. We prepared it with a nice cream sauce and it was succulent and scrumptious. (For the record, Monday was meatballs &...
On Sunday, we changed things up and didn’t have any macaroni and meatballs. My mother-in-law brought a whole bunch of Rock Cornish hens over and we enjoyed a big feast of these beautifully baked birdies along with rice, glazed carrots, salad and other finger foods. The mini hens made it feel like a mini Thanksgiving.
On Monday, we...
